Citrus propagation is performed primarily via Inverted T-Budding or Chip Budding onto 1-year seedling rootstocks (Carrizo Citrange, Volkameriana, Sour Orange, Flying Dragon). Budding requires active cambial cell division so bark "slips" cleanly without tearing. Optimal callusing temperatures are 75°F–85°F.

Use registered, disease-tested budwood to materially reduce the risk of moving graft-transmissible citrus pathogens. Follow the rules of your state or country.
