This tool uses 3.5× wood diameter as a practical starting heuristic for a long sloping cut, not a universal standard. When diameters differ, aligning a visible cambial edge on one side is generally more useful than centering the scion.

Assumptions & Physical Constraints:

Assumes straight-grained 1-year-old wood with smooth, uncrushed bark surfaces.

6.5mm Scion: Requires a 22.8mm (0.9 inch) diagonal cut. Aligned flush along one edge of a 7.0mm rootstock.
